Ballard #1 3/4 in 38-55

I just finished a Ballard in 38-55. It is from a Ken Briesen barrel blank, the action is a Ballard 1 3/4 iron frame (notice how the double set trigger plate sits below the action. I picked up a chunk of wood from a local gun shop. It already had another stock cut out of it but I was able to squeak a Ballard stock out of it. I probably have 50 coats of tung oil on the stock but it came along nicely. It was a pretty rough in some weird 30 cal (sleeved with an old military barrel)

I am a hobby gunsmith by night and teach at a University by day. I love taking old basket case but classic rifles and breathing new life into them. I do have a Ph.D. but it is in feed processing and nutrition and nothing to do with classic rifles but some of my friends call me the gun doctor for bringing these pieces back to life. I especially enjoy some of the old school methods like bone charcoal color casehardening.
