Finished the 20 Gauge Fowler

I finally finished the fowler I was building. There are a couple of spots on the barrel that seem to be resisting browning fully but I will try to encourage them to rust over time and hopefully they will blend in with the rest of the barrel. I also have to make a longer range rod as this is the longest gun I have built to date with a 46” barrel. It balances and fits me really well so I hope I can learn to hit something at the trap range with it. I think it should be a good smooth bore gun as well.

I shot the Fowler today. It is great fun to shoot. Shoots to the left so I will take the barrel out of the stock and give it a bend so it shoots on centre.

I am a hobby gunsmith by night and teach at a University by day. I love taking old basket case but classic rifles and breathing new life into them. I do have a Ph.D. but it is in feed processing and nutrition and nothing to do with classic rifles but some of my friends call me the gun doctor for bringing these pieces back to life. I especially enjoy some of the old school methods like bone charcoal color casehardening.
